Damage control

Some may have noticed that I’ve had to “hide” a lot of my posts.

Apparently, my attempts to protect Julie’s anonymity weren’t as successful as I’d hoped.

Yesterday someone sent her an email at work. It was threatening and cruel. It contained information that the author could have only gained from my blog and it scared both of us.

I stated once before that a simple google search with her name would bring up a lot of information about her, including photos and contact information. That’s exactly what this person did.

“The second I saw your picture on the college website next to your contact info, I knew it was you. Your girlfriend was very descriptive about how you look”

This person has her home address, work email and phone number, her parents address, has saved pictures of her off the internet, and even knows Milly’s real name and where she works.

This is scary. Julie is in the process of working with the police and campus security so we are hopeful this person will be found.

She says that she doesn’t blame me and isn’t mad at me for giving information out, but I can’t help but feel responsible.

If I don’t post for a while, it’s not because I don’t have anything to say.

I’m off to Illinois now for a few days to do some damage control. Yes, Julie asked me to come.

Hopefully, this all dies down soon and we can resume our life again.

In the meantime, I hope that the bigoted coward that wrote those horrible things finds some peace. Living with the type of hate that was expressed in that email has to be more than enough suffering for one person to endure.

  1. You may have to think about password protecting your blog. Sure hope they catch whoever is doing this and that you both are safe.
